Difference between BWP and BWR plywood

BWR and BWP Plywood are engineered products and the grading standard is set by government authorities to differentiate each product manufactured by factories for different objectives. BWR grading is given for the manufacturing of plywood whereas BWP is used to mark ply-boards or block-boards. BWP or BWR grade plywood is used in places that are highly exposed to water. These desired grades are obtained from gluing together the thin sheets of wooden veneers at high pressure and temperature with phenol-formaldehyde to form ply-board or plywood from layers.

Though the plywood carries the same gluing material, there is always this small difference when it comes to technical treatment. Also, to make plywood functionally stable in any weather condition, it is treated with selective preservatives and specific stress-relieving treatments to get anti-warp properties and close it off from termites and pests. It is highly resistant to moisture, dry heat, boiling water, tough weather, and other climatic conditions.

BWR:

BWR plywood stands for Boiling Water Resistant plywood, name suggests that it is eminently water-resistant plywood and is always recommended to be used in making furniture or cabinet structures in residential and commercial interiors. The plywood is warp-free with cohesive bonding as it is made from high-quality phenolic resins. The surface core layer is treated with specific chemicals using advanced technology to make it a termite and pests-proof plywood with zero surface core gaps. BWR grade plywood’s IS specification number is IS: 303. The cost-effective feature makes it highly recommendable for many clients.

BWP:

BWP plywood stands for Boiling Water Proof plywood, also known as marine-grade plywood is treated specially to make it withstand any high-moisture conditions. It is considered to be weather or water-proof plywood that is likely to withstand prolonged exposure to water or moisture when used in the furniture or cabinets construction without being delaminated. It is durable in its form obtained as a result of gluing reasonable wooden veneer sheets together making it a supreme exterior or marine grade. Each layer of veneer is placed with the grain textures running at right angles to the adjacent layer. BWP plywood supports well in the construction of wardrobes, base and wall cabinets of modular kitchen, under-basin storage, lofts, and tall units that are prone to steam and water contact. BWR grade plywoods IS specification number is IS: 710.

How Bizzoppo interiors use BWR and BWP plywood

The basic design structure for constructing any cabinet or wardrobe design consists of the carcass (inside cabinets or wardrobe) and shutters. Carcass material type and quality matter a lot while structuring the form as it impacts the functionality of the unit. Not only it is important to maintain the look of the cabinets but is highly recommended to check the material that has been used is water-proof plywood. Besides carcass structure, cabins with decorative finishes can be provided based on the desired design. Commonly used plywood is BWR plywood with lamination for compact kitchens or wardrobes with sleek designs. For sturdy or complex designs, BWP with lamination is used which can withstand the highly moisture-drive conditions.

Shutters are built with the BWR plywood with specific lamination and finishes to complement the carcass design structure. BWR plywood with acrylic or glossy or membrane finish is a commonly preferred choice by the clients. In recent days, although the kitchens countertop is built with granite or quartz stone, people are looking for an alternate option to make their interiors look modern and sleek. As a consequence of the preferences, that raised an idea to go with a customized kitchen countertop with solid surface top and premium quality BWP plywood with lamination. BWP is customized to form scratch and stain resistance. It also offers endless designs with grains and swirls patterns.
